Casting starts in Palma de Mallorca next week for extras for the film ‘Cloud Atlas’, based on the award-winning novel by David Mitchell. It’s directed by the Wachowski brothers and Tom Tykwer and stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon, amongst others.
Shooting is planned for the second half of September and casting for the more than 200 extras who are needed is next Monday and Tuesday, August 29 and 30, at Calle Socors, Number 22, in Palma. Further information is available on the Mallorca Film Commission web page.
There are three categories of extras being sought: people of all ages who El Mundo reports will play a group of slaves on a plantation. The second category is men between the ages of 25 and 45, with longish hair and a scruffy beard, to play the part of sailors, and the final group is men between 40 and 65 to represent characters from the period of the mid-19th Century.
It’s understood that doubles are also being sought for some of the actors, including Jim Sturgess and Jim Broadbent.
El Mundo notes that there has however been no confirmation as yet that Mallorca will be the definitive location for some of the scenes in Cloud Atlas.
